Summary/Overview We are looking for a Platform Engineer to help lead the deployment and operation of our Cyber Range infrastructure. Your goal will be to help build, maintain and improve our infrastructure running in on-premise and cloud environments. Your expertise in cloud infrastructure, kubernetes, VMware vCenter, and tools like Terraform, Ansible, Packer and GitLab CI will be essential in creating scalable and resilient real-world like scenarios that enable innovative experimentation. Essential Functions Implement highly scalable, secure, resilient cloud-native and on-premise application platforms that host vulnerable applications, configurations, and other services vital to research and development of our product. Identify, design, and implement improvements in deployment processes so engineers can begin development anytime with confidence. Design and implement tooling for the internal platform to collect telemetry data used to gauge its effectiveness in supporting H3's engineers. Help create an effective documentation culture within the Engineering Organization (Confluence, Documentation as code). Participate in effective project management and work allocation (Jira, Agile Concepts). Create Terraform modules and Ansible playbooks that are extensible across the infrastructure to reliably and effectively deploy vulnerable testing scenarios for engineering development efforts. Be a positive example of automation for infrastructure-as-code, platform operations, and overall CI/CD methodologies. Evaluate new technologies and patterns for automation, application hosting, and improving infrastructure provisioning. Recommend and define the work needed. Competencies 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform engineering, or related roles. 2+ years of experience in Systems and Network administration. Ability to manage concurrent initiatives and use effective judgment in prioritization and time management. Creative, self-motivated, pragmatic, disciplined, detail and results oriented. Excellent analytical/problem solving ability. Strong understanding and experience with solution design and flow Strong technical documentation and communication Tools (5+ years with each is ideal): Gitlab CI/CD SSO (OIDC, SAML, Okta, Social Sign-ins) Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormations) Secret Management (HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secret Manager, External Secrets Operator) Configuration Management (Ansible) Shell Scripting Image Building (Packer, QEMU) Programming Languages (Python, Powershell) Container Engines (Docker) Kubernetes (RKE2, K3S, EKS) Logging and Metrics (Datadog, OpenSearch) On-Premise Technologies: VMware vCenter Server/vSAN Dell Network Switches Fortinet Network Security Devices Cloud Technologies: AWS/Azure Core Services Compute (EC2, Lambda, EKS, Virtual Machines) Storage (S3, EBS, Image Gallery, Storage Accounts) Database (AuroraRDS - Postgres) Networking (VPC, VPCe, RT53, Resource Groups, vnets) Event-Driven Architecture (SQS, EventBus) Security (IAM Roles and Policies, KMS, Cloudtrail) User Management (Cognito, Organizations, SSO, Subscriptions, Tenants) Hybrid Domains (MSEntra/AzureAD) Education: Bachelors in Computer Science or STEM or equivalent experience MS in Computer Science a plus Nice to Haves Experience in Offensive or Defensive cyber security roles and/or certifications. In accordance with various State’s transparency regulations, we provide the following salary range information for this position: Base salary range: $180,000 - $220,000 annually . The exact salary will be determined based on the selected candidate’s location, qualifications, experience, and relevant skills.
