Volunteers play a vital role within the hospice team ranging from engagement of the patients and families, to clerical and office support. Hospice volunteers have a natural desire for caring, providing support to patients and their families along their difficult journeys. Volunteers have described their work as satisfying and emotionally enriching. Families describe them as a gift in their lives at the time of need. Volunteering can come in all forms, such as one on one visits with patients and their families, to helping in the office to provide support to the nursing and care staff.
