Myth vs Reality — the front office season edition MYTH: “Reception is just smiling and handing out key cards.” REALITY: You are the first and last impression of the hotel. You manage arrivals, departures, questions, and day-to-day coordination — in an international environment. MYTH: “It’s basically an easy desk job.” REALITY: It’s structured and fast-paced. During peak times you handle multiple guest situations at once, stay organized, and keep the process smooth. MYTH: “Check-in is the only important part.” REALITY: You manage check-in and check-out, guest requests, basic administration, and daily communication with housekeeping and other departments. MYTH: “Guests are always relaxed because they’re on holiday.” REALITY: Most guests are happy — but some are tired, stressed from travel, or have problems that need quick solutions. You stay professional, calm, and friendly in every situation. MYTH: “If you speak English, that’s enough.” REALITY: English is required.
