This role is for one of the Weekday's clients Min Experience: 5 years Location: Gurgaon JobType: full-time This is a senior backend engineering role with strong ownership over architecture, scalability, and performance for products used by hundreds of thousands of employees globally. You will go beyond feature development to solve complex distributed systems challenges, design for scale, and mentor engineers across teams. The role also involves contributing to the architecture and scaling of a desktop application platform , ensuring reliability, secure local execution, auto-updates, offline workflows, and seamless integration with cloud services. Key Responsibilities Own backend modules end-to-end, from system design and development to deployment, monitoring, and production support . Design and build scalable APIs and microservices for real-time, high-throughput, enterprise-grade applications. Architect, build, and maintain desktop applications (Electron or similar) that securely interact with local system resources and backend services. Implement auto-update mechanisms, secure credential storage, offline workflows, and local execution safeguards for desktop clients. Collaborate closely with Product, AI, and Frontend teams to translate business requirements into performant technical solutions. Drive engineering excellence through clean code, testing, performance benchmarks, and CI/CD automation . Diagnose and resolve complex production issues, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and implement long-term preventive fixes. Mentor junior engineers and actively influence architectural and technical decisions across teams. Required Skills & Experience 5–9 years of backend engineering experience building high-scale, distributed systems . Strong hands-on expertise with Node.js , including event-driven architecture, async patterns, and performance tuning. Experience building Electron or desktop/system-level applications that integrate with backend services. Familiarity with OS-level APIs , installers (MSI/DMG), auto-updaters, and secure local credential storage. Solid experience with MongoDB , including schema design, indexing, replication, and performance optimization. Strong understanding of RESTful API design (GraphQL experience is a plus). Excellent grasp of data structures, algorithms, and system design fundamentals . Proficiency in at least one scripting language such as Python or Bash . Proven ability to take ownership and deliver in ambiguous, fast-paced environments . Nice to Have Experience working on AI/ML-powered products or enterprise SaaS platforms. Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes). Experience with message queues such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS for event-driven architectures. Knowledge of distributed tracing, microservice orchestration , and observability tooling. Understanding of security best practices including authentication, authorization, and OWASP principles.
