This role is for one of the Weekday's clients Min Experience: 5 years Location: Gurugram JobType: full-time We are seeking a seasoned Backend Engineer (SDE III) to architect, build, and scale high-performance web applications that power mission-critical products. In this role, you will take end-to-end ownership of backend systems—from system design through deployment—while setting technical standards, mentoring engineers, and driving best practices across the engineering organization. You will work closely with product leadership and cross-functional teams to translate business needs into scalable, secure, and reliable backend solutions. Key Responsibilities Architecture & Development Design, build, and operate scalable, fault-tolerant backend systems for high-traffic applications. Lead system design decisions with a focus on performance, reliability, security, and maintainability. Own services end-to-end, from design and development to deployment and production monitoring. Technical Leadership Act as a senior technical contributor and role model, setting the engineering bar through hands-on development. Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing. Drive adoption of engineering best practices across the backend stack. Code Quality & Standards Enforce high standards for code quality, testing, security, and performance. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to ensure fast, reliable, and safe releases. Ensure backend systems follow open standards and interoperability best practices. Continuous Improvement Continuously evaluate and improve system architecture, development processes, and operational workflows. Promote a metrics-driven approach to improve reliability, performance, and team efficiency. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner closely with product, design, and leadership teams to convert requirements into clear technical solutions. Support external integrations and collaborate with partner teams as needed. Required Skills & Experience 5+ years of professional software development experience, including experience in senior or technical lead roles. Strong expertise in JavaScript and backend development using Node.js and related frameworks. Proven experience building and operating distributed, high-availability systems. Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP, along with modern DevOps practices. Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, data modeling, and performance optimization. Experience working with RESTful APIs and event-driven systems. Preferred (Nice to Have) Experience with decentralized identity systems, Verifiable Credentials, or distributed trust frameworks. Familiarity with privacy, security, and compliance standards such as GDPR, SOC 2, or ISO 27001. Experience integrating AI/ML models into backend workflows. Exposure to Kubernetes, message queues, and caching systems.
