This role is for one of the Weekday's clients Min Experience: 5 years Location: Gurugram JobType: full-time We are looking for an experienced Backend Engineer (SDE III) to design, build, and scale highly reliable backend systems that support mission-critical products. This role involves full ownership of backend services—from architecture and development to deployment and production operations—while influencing engineering standards, mentoring peers, and driving technical excellence across teams. You will collaborate closely with product leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into scalable, secure, and high-performance backend solutions. Key Responsibilities Architecture & Backend Development Design, build, and maintain scalable, fault-tolerant backend systems for high-traffic applications. Lead system design with a strong focus on performance, reliability, security, and long-term maintainability. Own backend services end-to-end, including development, deployment, monitoring, and production support. Technical Leadership Serve as a senior technical contributor, setting high engineering standards through hands-on development. Mentor engineers through code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical guidance. Drive adoption of backend engineering best practices across teams. Code Quality & Engineering Standards Enforce best practices for clean code, automated testing, security, and performance optimization. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable safe, fast, and reliable releases. Ensure backend systems adhere to open standards and interoperability principles. Continuous Improvement Continuously assess and improve system architecture, tooling, and operational workflows. Promote a metrics-driven culture to enhance system reliability, performance, and developer efficiency. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with product, design, and leadership teams to translate requirements into robust technical solutions. Support external integrations and collaborate with partner teams as needed. Required Skills & Experience 5+ years of professional software development experience, including senior or technical lead responsibilities. Strong expertise in JavaScript and backend development using Node.js and related frameworks. Proven experience building and operating distributed, high-availability systems. Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP , along with modern DevOps practices. Strong understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases , data modeling, and performance tuning. Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and working with event-driven architectures. Nice to Have Exposure to decentralized identity systems, Verifiable Credentials, or trust-based frameworks. Familiarity with security, privacy, and compliance standards such as GDPR, SOC 2, or ISO 27001 . Experience integrating AI/ML models into backend workflows. Knowledge of Kubernetes, message queues, and caching systems .
