Job Summary The Scrum Master – Platform Team (Technical Lead/Manager) is accountable for enabling high-performing delivery within a platform engineering team and across its stakeholders. The role facilitates Agile delivery practices, ensures sprint execution excellence, drives governance and quality discipline, supports integrated planning and resourcing, and enables effective stakeholder communications and reporting. The role also contributes technical leadership to ensure platform capabilities are delivered securely, reliably, and with operational excellence. Job Description Role Scope Supports a Platform Team that delivers enabling capabilities used by multiple squads/tribes (e.g., CI/CD, cloud foundations, developer platforms, observability, security automation, tooling). Leads Agile delivery across multiple sprints and coordinates dependencies and release activities with other teams. Works closely with: Delivery/Project Managers, Product Owners, Engineering Leads, Architects, Operations/Service teams, Risk/Governance forums, People/Resourcing partners, and senior stakeholders. Key Accountabilities A) Agile Delivery & Sprint Leadership (Core Scrum Master) Facilitate all core Scrum ceremonies: sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, retrospectives. Ensure all Scrum artefacts are maintained and updated (sprint backlog, goals, impediment logs, RAID, velocity/throughput, release plans). Ensure sprints run smoothly and implement corrective actions when delivery deviates from plan. Enable and coach teams on Agile ways of working, flow efficiency, and continuous improvement. Proactively identify blockers, drive resolution, and escalate where appropriate. B) Technical Delivery Leadership (Platform Team Focus) Provide day-to-day technical leadership to align engineering work with platform roadmap, standards, and operational goals. Drive alignment to engineering quality practices (definition of done, code review, testing strategy, automation, non-functional requirements). Ensure delivery supports operational readiness: observability, runbooks, incident readiness, performance, scalability, security controls. Champion continuous improvement and automation opportunities across platform processes and tooling. C) Integrated Planning, Dependencies & Delivery Governance Develop and maintain delivery plans to ensure platform outcomes are achieved within time, cost, and quality constraints. Consolidate deliverables and dependencies across squads/tribes; manage interlocks and critical path items. Identify delivery and release risks across teams; act as escalation point and ensure appropriate mitigations. Ensure adherence to change governance (CAB/change approvals where relevant), standards, and policies. Communicate delivery progress, risks, and decisions to Delivery/Project leadership and stakeholders. D) Transition to Agile / Agile Maturity Uplift Assess current delivery model and guide teams toward improved Agile practices and maturity. Support planning and transition of releases during Agile transformation phases. Provide expert coaching and mentorship to colleagues, Scrum Masters, and leaders to embed sustainable practices. Ensure issues raised during transition are addressed and resolved to acceptable outcomes. E) Stakeholder Management & Communication Enablement Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers to enable outcomes. Facilitate alignment and negotiation across multiple parties to resolve disagreements and drive delivery decisions. Communicate complex delivery, technical, and governance topics clearly and effectively. Coordinate delivery and release communications across squads/tribes where required. Adapt style to work effectively across disciplines and levels, internal and external/3rd-party suppliers. F) Reporting, Analytics & Knowledge Management Act as custodian for delivery reporting and analytics across platform delivery. Develop and standardize reporting for multiple stakeholder groups (monthly/quarterly/annual where applicable). Convert delivery data into insights and actions (risk themes, flow efficiency, dependency hotspots, quality trends). Establish and maintain knowledge/document management for delivery artefacts, templates, processes, decks, and reviews. G) People Enablement, Resourcing & Change Support Support integrated resource planning (capacity, leave, contingency, constraints) to meet delivery commitments. Coordinate resourcing processes in partnership with People/Line and support inputs from leaders and squads. Identify people risks, track development plans, and support performance processes through structured coordination. Act as change coach/mentor; develop change management plans for change initiatives impacting customers/employees/suppliers. H) Service / Application Management Alignment (Operational Discipline) Apply incident and problem management disciplines where relevant to platform operations. Maintain configuration items, raise changes, and support release planning and implementation activities. Maintain technical reference documentation aligned to standards and best practices. Ensure escalation/notification procedures for incidents are understood and applied when required. Required Skills & Experience Experience 7–10+ years in technology delivery and/or engineering environments (platform, infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, or enterprise engineering). 3–5+ years as a Scrum Master / Agile Delivery Lead, ideally across multiple teams or with complex dependencies. Demonstrable experience running sprints, building high-performing teams, and improving delivery predictability. Experience in delivery governance, risk management, release coordination, and stakeholder management. Core Skills Agile delivery leadership (Scrum, Kanban/flow basics, metrics, facilitation, coaching). Strong communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, and escalation management. Delivery planning, dependency management, and operational discipline. Reporting and analytics mindset (insights, trends, action planning). Comfortable working with ambiguity in fast-changing environments. Technical Knowledge (Platform Context) Understanding of platform engineering concepts and modern delivery practices: CI/CD pipelines, version control, automated testing Cloud or hybrid environments APIs/integration patterns Observability (logging/monitoring/tracing), incident response Security-by-design practices (controls, vulnerability management basics) Familiarity with workflow / delivery tools (e.g., Jira/Azure DevOps), documentation tools (e.g., Confluence/SharePoint), and reporting dashboards. Qualifications & Certifications Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering , or related field OR equivalent practical experience with demonstrated delivery leadership. Certifications (Preferred) PSM I/PSM II or CSM (Scrum Master) SAFe SSM (if operating in a SAFe environment) Desirable ITIL Foundation (service management alignment) Cloud certification (Azure/AWS/GCP Fundamentals or Associate) DevOps or SRE-related certification Prince2 / PMP (optional, depending on org governance) Key Measures of Success (KPIs) Sprint predictability: commitments met, stable throughput/velocity trends. Reduced blocker age and improved time-to-resolution of impediments. Improved flow: cycle time/lead time improvements, reduced bottlenecks. Governance compliance: change adherence, audit readiness, clean delivery artefacts. Stakeholder satisfaction: clarity of communication, confidence in delivery plans. Platform reliability outcomes: fewer production issues linked to delivery gaps (where applicable).
