Job Description Role Purpose: An exciting opportunity exists for two experienced Risk Governance and Policy Consultants to support the redesign and modernisation of the Old Mutual Limited (OML) Group Risk Policy Framework. The purpose of this fixed-term contract role is to contribute specialist expertise to the Group’s policy transformation programme, supporting the development of a cohesive, future-fit suite of risk policies that are aligned to the Group Governance Framework (GGF), Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) principles, and the Group’s evolving governance architecture. Role Overview The Risk Governance and Policy Consultants will operate at the centre of the Group’s Risk Governance and Policy transformation programme within the Integration & Governance (I&G) function of OML Group Risk. Working in a Line 2 environment, the role provides exposure to enterprise-wide risk governance and policy architecture, senior stakeholders, and Board-level governance processes. The consultants will support the review, redesign, and alignment of Group risk policies in line with the policy framework roadmap, ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment across the Group. This role is ideally suited to professionals with strong risk governance and policy experience who can add immediate value in a project-based, fixed-term capacity. The Risk Governance and Policy Consultant will work closely with Line 1 policy owners, subject matter experts (SMEs), and the broader Risk community in the delivery of key Group Risk governance initiatives, with a primary focus on the review, rewrite and modernisation of the OML Group Risk Policy Suite and associated governance artefacts. Acting as a governance specialist within Group Risk (Line 2), the role provides independent oversight, technical guidance, and constructive challenge to ensure that all Group risk policies are clear, principle-based, consistently structured, and aligned to Group Risk Strategy, ERM principles, and Board expectations. The role plays a critical part in delivering high-quality, Board-ready policies in line with the Group Policy Framework and the 2026 governance roadmap. Key Responsibilities (KRAs) Partner with Line 1 policy owners and subject matter experts (SMEs) to review, update, and consolidate the OML Group-wide Risk Policy Suite in line with the approved Group Policy Framework, ensuring clarity, consistency, and business usability. Demonstrate a strong ability to understand Line 1 operational, regulatory, and business requirements and translate these into clear, principle-based Line 2 policy and governance requirements that are practical, implementable, and scalable across the Group. Act as a link between Line 1 and Line 2, embedding operational realities, regulatory nuances, and execution considerations into policy design, while maintaining the independence, integrity, and standards of Group Risk governance. Provide independent governance oversight and constructive challenge to ensure policies appropriately balance Line 1 business realities with Group Risk Strategy, Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) principles, risk appetite, and Board and committee expectations. Draft high-quality, clear, concise, and principle-based risk policies that reflects extensive stakeholder consultation while remaining aligned to the Group Governance Framework (GGF), the OML Risk Classification Model, and broader governance architecture. Apply and embed Group policy lifecycle standards, templates, roles, and governance requirements across all policy drafts, including change control, waivers, review cycles, approvals, and version management. Coordinate and support the end-to-end delivery of policy drafts for the 2026 Board and committee cycles, ensuring policies are Board-ready and positioned for Group-wide adoption. Engage effectively with stakeholders across Legal, Compliance, Risk SMEs, and Line 1 leadership to drive a coherent interpretation and consistent application of policy expectations across the Group. Strengthen policy monitoring, compliance, and attestation mechanisms by incorporating clear evidence expectations, compliance indicators, and consistent control language that supports effective oversight. Contribute to policy rollout, awareness, and capability-building initiatives, supporting Line 1 and Line 2 stakeholders to effectively understand and implement revised policies. Qualifications, Skills and Experience: Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; CA(SA) or a professional tertiary qualification in risk management and/or audit will be advantageous.  OR Related tertiary qualification in risk/ audit/ accounting/ compliance or related area 4 - 5 years relevant experience. Demonstrated evidence of policy drafting and governance articulation at enterprise or Group level Experience: Critical Capabilities & Experience Technical & Governance Capability Proven experience drafting, reviewing, and modernising risk or governance policies within a complex, regulated financial services environment. Strong understanding of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), risk appetite frameworks, and Line 1 / Line 2 governance models. Demonstrated ability to work with Group-level governance frameworks, policy hierarchies, and Board or committee approval processes. Experience aligning policies to governance standards such as Group Governance Frameworks, policy lifecycle models, and classification/taxonomy frameworks. Line 1 – Line 2 Translation Capability (Critical) Demonstrated ability to understand Line 1 operational, regulatory, and business realities and translate these into clear, principle-based Line 2 policy requirements without diluting governance standards. Strong consulting-style capability to diagnose issues, synthesise complex inputs, and embed operational feasibility into policy design. Ability to provide constructive challenge and independent oversight while maintaining strong, credible relationships with Line 1 stakeholders. Stakeholder Engagement & Influence Proven experience engaging with senior stakeholders across Risk, Legal, Compliance, and business functions. Strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to navigate differing views and drive consensus on policy outcomes. Ability to influence without authority in a matrixed, enterprise-wide environment. Delivery & Ways of Working Highly structured and delivery-focused, with experience working in project-based or fixed-term consulting roles. Strong drafting, editing, and attention-to-detail skills, with the ability to produce Board-ready documentation. Comfortable working at pace against fixed governance timelines and Board cycles. Key skills and attributes that would make a candidate successful in this role: 6-Month Deliverables Within the six-month fixed-term contract, the Risk Policy Governance Consultant will be expected to deliver the following: Review, rewrite, and modernise assigned Group Risk policies in line with the approved Group Policy Framework and policy roadmap. Deliver a set of Board-ready, principle-based Group Risk policies aligned to the Group Governance Framework (GGF), ERM principles, and OML Risk Classification Model. Embed Line 1 operational and regulatory requirements into policy design, ensuring policies are practical, implementable, and clearly understood by business owners. Apply and operationalise Group policy lifecycle standards across all assigned policies, including governance, approvals, review cycles, waivers, and change control. Support the successful submission of policies into the 2026 Board and committee cycles , meeting quality and timing expectations. Strengthen policy monitoring, compliance, and attestation components within policies, including evidence expectations and control language. Contribute to policy rollout and awareness materials to support Group-wide adoption. Success Measures Success in the role will be measured by: Delivery of high-quality, Board-approved (or Board-ready) Group Risk policies within agreed timelines. Clear evidence that policies are principle-based, consistently structured, and aligned to Group Risk Strategy, ERM principles, and governance standards. Positive feedback from Line 1 policy owners and Group Risk stakeholders on the practicality, clarity, and usability of revised policies. Demonstrated ability to effectively bridge Line 1 and Line 2 perspectives, with operational realities appropriately embedded without compromising governance. Minimal rework or remediation required post-submission due to governance, quality, or alignment issues. Effective collaboration with Legal, Compliance, Risk SMEs, and governance forums throughout the policy lifecycle.
