Job Description Summary Reporting to the Application Engineer Team Leader they will provide solutions and technical leadership to help drive innovation of GE Grid Solutions protection and control devices. The Senior Development Application Engineer will define product technical requirements, provide solutions utilizing specifications, simulations, and model-based design and mentorship to team members. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned technical authority with a deep understanding of power system protection and control capable of developing robust solutions to meet customer requirements. They will demonstrate leadership, communication and collaboration skills, capable of shaping technical solutions and guidance to team members. Job Description Core responsibilities Work with Program & Product Management teams to create high-level specifications. Develop and support protection and control solutions utilising design specifications, model-based design which facilitates code generation. Perform system studies and simulations using appropriate tools to validate algorithms. Analyse user specifications / requirements to recommend appropriate solutions Analyse market trends and requirements to propose new developments in GE Digital Energy products. Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve products, applications or field issues Provide technical consultation, leadership, and guidance throughout the entire NPI design process Author technical papers and present materials at tradeshows and conferences for GE products Assist in preparing training material and deliver training courses, where required Provide technical guidance, direction, and training to a new and/or experienced engineers, specialists, technicians, and co-ops when required Education and experience required Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution, or equivalent knowledge or experience . Extensive experience in power system protection, automation, and control product development. Working knowledge of Matlab / Simulink for model design and power system simulation tools such as RTDS. PSCAD or ATP/EMTP. Proven track record of publishing and presenting at industry forums and conferences Familiarity with industry standards and documentation procedures of electrical utilities. Knowledge of modern protection and control and distribution automation developments and trends. Knowledge or experience of metering, wireless / Ethernet / serial communications applicable to P&C (such as IEC61850, Modbus, DNP3.0 and IEC60870-5-103). Flexible and adaptable; open to change and modification of tasks, working in multi-tasking environment. For Canadian based positions, the pay range for this position is between $120 000 and $170 000 CAD. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidates experience, education, and skill set. Eligible for discretionary annual bonus .
