Continuation past the term length discussed will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.   POSITION SPECIFICS The Department of Anthropology at The Pennsylvania State University ( https://anth.la.psu.edu/ ) invites applications for a full-time, Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor position to start Spring 2026, with flexibility. The successful candidate will lead the development of a human gross anatomy teaching program in the Department of Anthropology’s new gross anatomy teaching lab. The Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor will join a collegial, science-based anthropology department with strong interdisciplinary ties across Penn State. Teaching responsibilities will include a human gross anatomy dissection course for medical students, graduate students, and advanced undergraduates, other cadaver-based anatomy courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as other courses within the candidate’s area of expertise. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead the creation of a new anatomy curriculum in the Department of Anthropology Additional responsibilities include overseeing and maintaining the human gross anatomy teaching program in the department, training laboratory teaching assistants to be effective members of an instructional team, creating/implementing inquiry-based class exercises, and leading curriculum design and assessment. Opportunities for research collaboration also exist for the Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor with current department faculty, whose research areas include (but are not limited to): functional morphology and biomechanics, evolutionary developmental biology, evolutionary genetics and genomics, evolutionary health, behavioral ecology, and human-environment interactions. The Department of Anthropology is especially interested in candidates who have a broad spectrum of perspectives and experiences, who will contribute to the excellence of the academic community at Penn State. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in anthropology, biology, anatomy, physiology, or another anatomy related field in hand at the time of appointment and at least two years of teaching experience in relevant courses. A demonstrated interest in pedagogy and the application of research-based teaching methods is highly desirable. Undergraduate or graduate teaching experience that implements active learning strategies is required, and documented excellence in teaching is important. Preference will be given to those with anatomy teaching and dissection experience. This is a non-tenure-line position with an excellent possibility of renewal. This appointment will be filled at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor or Associate Teaching Professor . Rank and length of term are determined by education and qualifications.
