In particular, we seek candidates with a demonstrated record of scholarship including experimental structural mechanics and an ability to develop successful research programs that could utilize the facilities in the state-of-the-art 8,000 square foot Aramco High Bay Structural Testing Lab . We are also interested in applicants that seek to foster collaborations among different departments across the College of Engineering and the University, as well as the various institutes at Penn State, such as the Materials Research Institute , the Institute of Energy and the Environment , The Cocoziello Institute of Real Estate Innovation , and the Institute for Computational and Data Sciences . Qualfications at the rank of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor include a Ph.D. in civil, architectural or other closely related fields in engineering by the start of the appointment. Candidates at the Assistant Professor level must have demonstrated ability as a researcher and must have shown definite evidence of growth in scholarly or professional achievement. Candidates for Associate Professor must possess the same qualifications as the Assistant Professor, but must also provide evidence of an established reputation in teaching as well as scholarly and professional achievement. Both positions will have joint appointments within the Departments of Architectural Engineering and Civil and Environmental Engineering. These joint positions will strengthen existing collaborations between the two departments and provide opportunities to develop innovative, multidisciplinary programs that draw on the complementary expertise of both departments. As such, the selected faculty members will be expected to build successful collaborations within both departments. Teaching and service responsibilities of each faculty member will primarily be in their home department. The academic home, rank and other terms of appointment will be determined during the hiring process. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with first-round reviews beginning on December 1 and future rounds continuing until the positions are filled. To apply, please submit an online application including: a cover letter; a curriculum vitae; a statement of research interests; a statement of teaching interests; contact information for four professional references; and two published journal articles. In the cover letter, indicate the department home of alignment for appointment and envisioned contributions to the shared interests of the two departments. Application materials should be uploaded as two PDFs : one PDF containing all application materials in the order listed, without journal publications, and a second PDF only containing the two selected journal publications. Because of submission system limitations, each PDF document cannot exceed 5MB. This search is being conducted at the college level and is led by Dr. Gordon Warn, Professor of Civil Engineering, and Dr. Nathan Brown, Associate Professor of Architectural Engineering. Questions can be addressed to Drs. Warn and Brown. Beyond specific field of expertise, we seek candidates eager to contribute within a community driven by impact with the ability to create/maintain an inclusive and respectful environment for all faculty, staff and students consistent with the Penn State Values .
