Department: Operations & Services Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: The Skilled Tradesman is responsible for the work activities in Motor Pool. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. Qualifications: Required Education &/or Experience: Completion of sufficient education or training to read and write; Five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience in automobile and diesel repair work; Must Possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle. Job Duties & Responsibilities: Repairs brakes, mufflers, tailpipes, and hydraulic systems; Provides engine tune-ups and works on electrical systems; Performs general duties consisting of preventative maintenance by making monthly and weekly inspections; Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions; Must be able to wear a respirator; Must be able to hold, start, use and operate tools and equipment used in the skilled trade for extended periods; Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs; Must be able to load/unload tools and equipment (weights varying up to 75 lbs.); Must be able to communicate to campus community and co-workers; Knowledge of diesel and gasoline-powered engines; Knowledge of hydraulic systems; skill in the use and care of diagnostic equipment grinding machines, hoisting, and welding equipment; Ability to overhaul, rebuild and repair all types of engines.
