Let’s be #BrilliantTogether ISS STOXX is looking for a Climate Data Scientist for our Climate Solutions Team at the Mumbai - Goregaon East location. Overview: Climate Solutions is a unit within ISS Sustainability Solutions, the responsible investment business of ISS STOXX. As investors seek to gain a better understanding of their exposure to climate-related risks, Climate Solutions provides data, analytics, and advisory services to support investors in understanding, measuring, and acting on climate-related risks & opportunities and their impact on investments across all asset classes. ISS STOXX Sustainability Solutions Climate Solutions is an innovative market leader within its field. ISS STOXX Climate Team is working closely with its clients to help them with risk analysis and is looking for passionate team members to work extensively on ISS STOXX ESG Physical Risks products. The successful candidate will be a topic expert in physical climate risks, climate change, climate impacts and natural hazard modelling. In this role you will contribute as a key member of our dedicated Physical Risks team, focusing on improving our existing climate risk models, creating new models and developing new products and analysis tools to assess the financial impacts for companies and real assets arising from climate physical hazards such as floods, tropical cyclones, wildfires, heat stress and drought. Responsibilities: Contribute to data science-driven product development, including climate risk assessment products. Develop and maintain custom data models and algorithms for large geospatial and climate datasets. Improve existing models and ensure regular data updates. Assess the accuracy and effectiveness of new data sources and data-gathering techniques. Analyze international regulatory requirements, public datasets, and scenario data to identify opportunities for new climate-related sustainable finance products. Collaborate with other ESG and climate-risk product teams and maintain awareness of the competitive landscape. Act as a subject matter expert on ESG product offerings, supporting colleagues and clients through day-to-day communications, operations, and specialist inquiries. Qualifications/Skills: Degree in atmospheric or physical sciences, meteorology, hydrology, environmental science, or a related field. 2–4 years of experience as a climate specialist, geospatial data analyst, environmental engineer, or similar role, with expertise in climate data analysis (e.g., atmospheric sciences, climate change impacts, physics-based hazard modelling, or natural catastrophe modelling). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with prior research experience. Familiarity with climate data sources, climate models and initiatives, e.g. CMIP5 and CMIP6. Proficiency in data science, geospatial data analysis and statistical analysis. Strong programming skills in Python (including libraries such as xarray, rasterio, geopandas) and good working knowledge of UNIX shell. Comfortable working with large geospatial datasets (vector and raster) and GIS tools. Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and containerization tools (e.g., Docker). Familiarity with cloud computing environments (e.g. GCP). Experience developing or maintaining large-scale climate hazard models is a plus (e.g., river/coastal floods, tropical cyclones, wildfires, heat stress, drought). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across locations and time zones. Detail-oriented and proactive in problem-solving within a fast-paced environment. Excellent oral and written command of English. Interest in ESG, responsible investment, and sustainability is desirable. Previous experience in ESG and/or sustainable climate finance is a plus.
