An Ophthalmic Technician displays high proficiency in taking patient histories and is highly organized to fully prepare the patient for the research appointment. Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent. 1 year of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or Ophthalmic Assistant. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Certified Ophthalmic Technician from Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology preferred. Requirements : Must work effectively with individuals and team. Knowledge of Ophthalmic terminology and testing required as directed. Evidence of organizational and problem-solving skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Demonstrative effectiveness in conveying information both in writing and verbally. Demonstrates an understanding of job responsibilities and uses appropriate knowledge and skills to effectively complete work. Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Must be able to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization. Preferences: COT Certification preferred. Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records. Duties and Responsibilities: 1.   Interacts professionally and compassionately with patients daily. 2.   Main focus is to perform visual acuity for clinical trial research participants. 3.   Performs diagnostic testing such as visual acuity eye exams, lensometry, keratometry, refractometry and tonometry. Can perform other duties as needed clinically: 4.   Documents symptoms, complaints, medical history, medications, allergies and reactions. 5.   Enters examination finding into Electronic Medical Record. 6.   Obtains Ophthalmic imaging: OCT, Topography, Pachymetry, Specular Microscopy, Manual A-scans and IOL Master. 7.   Perform visual fields: Humphrey, Goldmann and Octopus fields. 8.   Completes medical forms. 9.   Instructs patients on proper eye care. 10. Assists physicians and other health care providers in the Ophthalmology clinic. 11. Properly assists physically or visually disabled patients. 12. Adhere to regulations regarding drug samples and drug sample logs. 13. Ensures medication and supply expiration dates are current. 14. Performs related patient service when necessary and as requested. 15. Ability to perform functions using job-related software and systems. 16. Travel may be required to accommodate staffing levels at other clinical facilities. 17. Attendance, promptness, professionalism, the ability to pay attention to detail, cooperativeness with co-workers and supervisors, and politeness to customers, vendors, and patients. 18. Other duties or special projects as assigned.
