Office/Bureau : Maintenance and Operations (Region 2 - Midcoast Maine)                                Location : China, ME                                                                        Opening Date : January 16, 2026 Closing Date: February 2, 2026 Job Description:   This is mechanical craft work focusing on the maintenance, repair, and rebuilding of heavy vehicle, automotive, and construction equipment, in the field within a specified region of the state. Work includes diagnosing mechanical and electrical problems, evaluating overall conditions, and performing skilled technical tasks in testing, installing, repairing, rebuilding, rewiring, replacing, and/or fabricating parts for a variety of heavy vehicle, automotive, and construction equipment. This position operates with a higher degree of independence in a field environment, requiring independent judgement pertaining to the maintenance, repair, and/or rebuilding of heavy vehicles, automotive, and construction equipment, on the road or in a field garage. Work is performed under limited supervision. To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience: Four (4) years experience, education, and/or training in the maintenance, repair, and/or rebuild of automotive and/or construction equipment including two (2) years of experience working with heavy vehicle and construction equipment, one (1) year of related work performed independently, and experience which indicates the ability to receive, store, and distribute parts and/or supplies. Licensing/Registration/Certification Requirements: Class B CDL with air endorsements and Class A & D inspection licenses.  Some positions may also include Class E inspection license requirement.  ( These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class (probation) Pass State paid Medical examination that includes a drug test and the Department’s Respirator fit test and the driver examination and road test for the assigned equipment. Must have a valid Class C State of Maine license by first day of employment.
