As the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Coordinator, you will play a critical role in protecting and promoting the health of newborns across the state. Your work will help ensure that all Maine babies are screened for hearing loss and that those with hearing differences are identified early and connected to timely, appropriate care. Core Responsibilities: In this role, you will provide leadership, technical expertise, and coordination for all aspects of Maine’s EHDI Program, also known as the Maine Newborn Hearing Program (MNHP). You will collaborate with healthcare providers, families, educators, and partners statewide to strengthen systems that support children and families from birth forward. What you’ll do: Lead and strengthen a statewide public health program •        Provide overall coordination, leadership, and technical support for Maine’s EHDI/MNHP program. •        Regularly evaluate program performance to identify gaps and develop initiatives to address them. •        Maintain knowledge of national best practices in newborn hearing screening through literature review, training, webinars, and state and national conferences. Support grants, reporting, and accountability •        Work closely with the program manager on EHDI grant submissions, including work plan development, implementation, and report writing. •        Ensure grant goals are met, and submission deadlines are achieved. Use data to improve outcomes •        Conduct and manage required data collection, including: o        Annual EHDI Hearing Screening and Follow-Up Survey submissions o        Twice annual EHDI Patient Level Data Set submissions •        Track all Maine newborns to ensure hearing screenings are completed, referrals are made when needed, and data and audiology reports are submitted to Maine’s Surveillance and Tracking System. •        Serve as the technical contact for Maine’s Surveillance and Tracking System. Collaborate with partners across Maine •        Work closely with a wide range of partners, including: o        Hospitals, birthing facilities, and midwives o        Pediatric audiologists and early intervention providers o        Maine Educational Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (MECDHH) o        Early Intervention for ME o        Maine Hands & Voices o        Families, healthcare professionals, national organizations, and other state EHDI programs o        Maine State Legislature, Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs team, and other state agencies •        Serve as the primary contact for internal and external stakeholders on newborn hearing. Provide technical assistance and education •        Consult with hospitals, audiologists, early intervention specialists, and other stakeholders on protocols, rules, best practices, screening procedures, and data processes. •        Provide technical assistance related to policies, data transmission, quality improvement, and troubleshooting via email, phone, in person, or through site visits. •        Conduct regular site visits to Maine birthing facilities. •        Develop new educational materials and review and update existing resources. Ensure follow-up and family connection •        Follow up with healthcare providers and partners regarding: o        Newborns who were not screened o        Newborns requiring additional testing o        Newborns diagnosed with hearing loss •        Collect missing screening data, audiology reports, appointment information, and early intervention enrollment details to ensure complete and accurate records. Support advisory boards and policy development •        Provide leadership and administrative support to the Maine Newborn Hearing Program Advisory Board, including: o        Scheduling and supporting quarterly meetings o        Arranging interpreters and CART services o        Taking meeting minutes and maintaining board documents o        Serving as Board Clerk o        Preparing required annual reports for Boards and Commissions and the Maine Legislature o        Following established SOPs for board operations •        Collaborate with the Maternal Health Program’s Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs team to update Maine Newborn Hearing Program rules. •        Work with the program manager to update and maintain the MNHP website. Advance emerging public health priorities •        Participate in the Cytomegalovirus (CMV) workgroup, including developing and supporting implementation of education and screening efforts.   Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree in Public/Community Health, Health Administration, Health Sciences or Health Education; Public Administration, Government, Social Work, or a closely related field and three (3) years professional experience in the planning, development, coordination and/or evaluation of health programs or services -OR- an equivalent seven (7) year combination of education, training, and experience.   Preferred candidates will also have:   o        Knowledge of, and experience with newborn hearing screening / EHDI programs.   o        Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners. o        Advanced database skills including creation, management, and integration of diverse datasets.
