About the Role: As a Senior Underwriter or AVP Underwriter on our Wholesale Excess Casualty Team in Los Angeles or San Francisco, you’ll work in a hybrid capacity, spending three days in the office and two days remotely. You bring a strong underwriting background and a commitment to delivering exceptional service and results. Your Role & Responsibilities (include but not limited to): You’ll help develop a profitable book of middle to large market-sized E&S Excess Casualty business for General Liability and Commercial Automobile lines within your designated underwriting territory. You’ll assist in implementing a growth plan for your region and help build brand awareness for Everest. You’ll underwrite select new and renewal accounts according to department standards. You’ll adhere to underwriting guidelines and referral processes. You’ll build and manage a diverse and profitable book of business. You’ll cultivate productive relationships with appointed wholesale brokers. You’ll develop and manage pricing and risk selection standards that align with strategic goals and financial targets. You’ll collaborate effectively with Actuarial, Claims, Loss Control, Operations, Finance, and IT teams. You’ll stay informed about competitor strategies and the broader insurance marketplace. What You Bring: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business or a related field (insurance designations are a plus). 5+ years of relevant wholesale casualty underwriting experience, with the ability to support leadership in building a profitable portfolio. Expertise in General Liability and Commercial Automobile segments. A self-motivated, independent approach while maintaining underwriting discipline. Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Excellent relationship-building and coaching abilities. A keen ability to assess risk-inherent exposures and natural hazards. Willingness to travel up to 25%. Your Knowledge, Skills & Competencies: Exceptional relationship-building across business functions. Strong analytical skills to evaluate risk and portfolio data. Excellent sales and negotiation capabilities. The base salary range for this position is $150,000-200,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location.
