Assistant Attorney General – Health and Human Services Division Opening Date:  December 29, 2025 Closing Date:  February 20, 2026   Job Class Code:  0186 Grade:  1  Salary:  $71,843.20 - $139,110.40/year* Salary: Salary competitive and based upon qualifications* *Pursuant to 5 MRS § 196 the salary for this position has been set by the Office of the Attorney General Position #006000416 Job Description: The Office of the Attorney General has an opening for an Assistant Attorney General within the Health and Human Services Division in Augusta. This position will represent the DHHS Office of Licensing and Certification (DLC), which includes the Background Check Center and the Certificate of Need (CON) Office.   In addition, this position will represent the Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services in mental health court hearings and appeals to the Superior  Court. Representation of DLC/CON will include: assisting clients in the drafting of rules and APA legal review of rules; representation of the clients at administrative hearings and also in appellate review of DLC/CON decisions in state court; reviewing and responding to subpoenas served on clients; day-to-day legal advice on such matters as legislation, contracts, and Department policies; and responding to unusual events. The position will also assist  DLC  in the drafting of rules and the APA legal review of rules.  Office of the Attorney General Minimum Qualifications:  Applicants must be members of the Maine Bar in good standing, have an eye for legal detail, be interested in complex state and federal litigation, have strong legal advocacy and writing skills, and a demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a team. One to three years of legal practice with demonstrated proficiency in civil litigation and/or health care law and litigation is preferred.
