Job Title: Physician – Otolaryngology, Neurotologist (Open Rank/ Track Faculty) Department: The Division of Otology, Neurotology, and Skull Base Surgery within the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery seeks a highly qualified Neurotologist Surgeon-Scientist. We are recruiting an academic clinician with advanced training in both pediatric and adult neurotology, substantial expertise in lateral skull-base surgery, and a demonstrated commitment to a career integrating clinical excellence, education, and impactful scientific discovery. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative, well-resourced academic environment and play a meaningful role in advancing the department’s clinical, research, and educational missions. Applicants with research or clinical interests in Ménière’s disease are strongly encouraged to apply. The Neurotologist provides comprehensive, high-quality care for adult and pediatric patients with complex otologic and neurotologic disorders. Clinical responsibilities include the evaluation and management of hearing loss, chronic ear disease, otologic trauma, vestibular disorders, cochlear implantation, and osseointegrated hearing solutions. The role requires advanced expertise in complex lateral skull base surgery, utilizing middle fossa, retrosigmoid, and translabyrinthine approaches, with a focus on the management of vestibular schwannomas, cerebrospinal fluid leaks, temporal bone tumors, and related skull base pathologies. In addition to clinical excellence, the Neurotologist is expected to develop and sustain an externally funded research program as a surgeon-scientist, contributing to translational and collaborative research aligned with departmental and institutional priorities. The position plays a vital role in the academic mission by actively participating in teaching and mentoring residents, fellows, medical students, and research trainees. The Neurotologist also engages in interdisciplinary collaboration across the medical center, partnering with neurosurgery, oncology, audiology, engineering, and basic science investigators. Scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed publications, national presentations, and service within professional societies, supporting the advancement of the field and the institution’s academic reputation. The successful candidate will join one of the nation’s leading academic health centers, with access to the expansive clinical, research, and educational resources of The Ohio State University. Required Qualifications MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent) Completion of an ACGME-accredited Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery residency. Completion of a fellowship in neurotology with formal training in both pediatric and adult populations. Demonstrated advanced training and proficiency in lateral skull base surgery, including middle fossa, retrosigmoid, and translabyrinthine approaches. Strong record of research productivity and a clear commitment to a long-term career as a surgeon-scientist (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, funding history, research awards, or other significant scientific contributions). Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Ohio. Qualify for academic appointment – Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience Additional Consideration Additional consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate a strong record of independent or collaborative research funding, or clear potential for future external funding, including a K-award or equivalent career development trajectory. The Department of Otolaryngology The Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is a nationally recognized leader in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) care, combining advanced clinical services with academic excellence in research and education. As a distinct academic department within the Ohio State College of Medicine, it offers comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management for a full spectrum of otolaryngologic conditions affecting adults and children. The department’s clinical expertise spans general and specialized ENT care, including allergy and immunology, audiology and hearing disorders, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, sinus and skull base surgery, head and neck cancer treatment, pediatric otolaryngology, sleep apnea management, and voice and swallowing disorders. It is supported by state-of-the-art facilities, including the Ohio State Eye and Ear Institute, the James Cancer Hospital, and outpatient clinics serving central Ohio. Faculty Defined Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical, and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their primary career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, which may also include teaching and/or research. Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD, DO, or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.
