Prior to submitting your application, please review and update (if necessary) the information in your candidate profile as it will transfer to your application.  Job Title: Coordinator, Outreach and Education Protect OHIO Department: Veterinary Medicine | Ohio Department of Education State Funding The Coordinator for Outreach and Education for Protect One Health in Ohio (OHIO) initiative designs, develops, and delivers outreach and educational programs aimed at strengthening Ohio’s rural veterinary workforce. This position focuses on increasing the number of veterinary students originating from rural communities, encouraging interest in large animal veterinary medicine, and supporting graduates to return to and remain in rural practices. The Coordinator applies expertise in education and outreach to create animal/veterinary science and career exploration curricula and interactive materials for elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as resources for educators and counselors. They train teachers, counselors, veterinarians, and veterinary students to deliver these programs effectively and evaluate their impact for continuous improvement. Responsibilities include planning, managing and prioritizing outreach activities and events hosted by external partners and the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), coordinating logistics, purchasing materials, and ensuring delivery of educational kits and booths. The Coordinator collaborates with a broad network of internal and external stakeholders, including OSU Extension, 4-H and FFA leaders, school districts, teachers, agricultural organizations, and rural communities. They develop relationships with guidance counselors to build awareness of career opportunities in rural, large animal veterinary medicine and connect local veterinarians who are available to speak to students and/or at events. Internally, they work with faculty, students, and recruitment staff to prioritize and participate in events that promote veterinary careers, with a focus on large animal practice. Through these efforts, the Coordinator advances the mission of the Protect OHIO initiative by fostering awareness, education, and engagement across Ohio. Job duties include the following: · Outreach Program Development and Delivery: o Design, develop and implement animal/veterinary science and career exploration curriculum for elementary, middle, and high school students. o Create interactive educational material and outreach kits and booths for use at events and in classrooms. o Train educators, counselors, veterinarian, and veterinary students to deliver programs effectively. o Evaluate program effectiveness and make revisions as needed. o Formulate program objectives and priorities, implement project plans and associated budgets, including milestones, metrics, timelines and measures; reporting progress and outcomes. o Coordinate volunteers (e.g., veterinarians, and student ambassadors) and other stakeholders for outreach events, including scheduling, communication, orientation and training. · Outreach and Engagement: o In coordination with the Director of the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, and the Director of Outreach and Engagement for Protect OHIO, develop and maintain relationships with OSU Extension, 4-H and FFA leaders, school districts, teachers, agricultural organizations, and rural communities. o Build connections with guidance counselors. o Internally, interact with faculty, students, and other staff to prioritize and participate in and/or host events that promote animal science/veterinary medicine as a career with a focus on large animal veterinary practice. o Identify and prioritize outreach activities and events hosted by external partners and CVM. · Routine Administrative Responsibilities: o Manage purchasing of materials and coordinate logistics for events, meetings and trainings. o Create and maintain reporting for attendance at outreach activities and events. Additional Information: Required Qualifications: · BS in agricultural/extension education or education. · 2 years of relevant outreach (extension) and/or education experience. · Experience in design, development, and delivery of outreach/educational materials for elementary, middle school, and high school students, particularly in the science or career exploration area. · Evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills. · Strong project management and organizational skills. · Ability to work independently and collaboratively on project teams. Desired Qualifications: · 2 - 4 years of relevant outreach (extension) and/or education experience. · Experience with veterinary medicine and/or animal agriculture (i.e. livestock, poultry, aquaculture, and/or horses). · Experience with 4-H or FFA. Working Conditions: · Primarily in an office setting with extended periods of sitting. · Frequent statewide travel required to visit Ohio stakeholders and partners; evenings/weekends as needed. · Periodic exposure to animals, especially poultry, livestock, and horses. Target Salary Range: $47,700.00 - $62,300.00 per year ; commensurate with experience, internal equity, the unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
