Your opportunity As General Manager Property Strategy (Freehold), you will play a pivotal role in ensuring Mission Australia’s property portfolio supports our purpose of helping Australians in need. You will lead the development and implementation of the strategy for 16 owned sites: including key locations like MAC Surrey Hills, Miller, Chigwell House, and DAYS in Perth, determining the best use of each property to maximise impact, whether through redevelopment, divestment, or innovative reuse. Working closely with diverse stakeholders, you will navigate complex perspectives and deliver a clear, sustainable property strategy that enables us to provide life-changing services where they’re needed most. Your key responsibilities will be to: Lead the development and ongoing refinement of a comprehensive property strategy aligned with organisational goals. Determine optimal use of freehold sites, including redevelopment, divestment, or alternative strategies. Identify and evaluate acquisition and disposal opportunities to maximise portfolio value and returns. Oversee financial modelling, investment appraisals, and scenario analysis to inform strategic decisions. Engage and collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to align property initiatives. Monitor and report on portfolio performance, ensuring compliance with legal, environmental, and planning regulations. Identify opportunities for cost optimisation and sustainability across the property portfolio. Manage risk frameworks and ensure proactive mitigation of property-related risks. Requirements for success Tertiary qualifications in Property, Real Estate, Urban Planning, Business, Finance, or a related discipline. Extensive experience (10+ years) in property strategy, portfolio management, or real estate within a large organisational or corporate environment. Proven track record in managing freehold property portfolios, including acquisitions, disposals, and asset optimisation. Experience leading cross-functional teams and collaborating with diverse stakeholders. Strong strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent negotiation and contract management capabilities. High-level stakeholder engagement and communication skills, able to influence at senior levels. Commercial acumen and financial literacy, including investment appraisal and financial modelling. Leadership skills with a collaborative approach and ability to manage complex projects. High attention to detail with commitment to compliance, risk management, and sustainability principles. Willingness and ability to travel ad-hoc for site visits as part of the role.
