SCOPE OF WORK: The International Rescue Committee (IRC), works in the United States welcomes newly arrived refugees and immigrants, supports them in their resettlement, and provides holistic services to help them build new lives in their communities. Oftentimes upon arrival and throughout their first few years, our clients face barriers, limiting access to essential services and medical care. The Intensive Case Management program works one-on-one with clients to assess their needs and coordinate services accordingly. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Intensive Case Management (ICM) Intern collaborates closely with the ICM Team to assist with a variety of client-centered tasks. These tasks include evaluating skill and resource gaps for clients, building resiliency and self-sufficiency, and leveraging community connections to enhance support for refugee and displaced individuals. This support extends to those with severe physical or mental health conditions, the elderly, LGBTQ+ clients, single-headed households, and victims of sexual assault and gender-based violence participating in the Intensive Case Management (ICM) or Supplemental Case Management (SCM) programs. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: [Insert 3 Objectives for Interns Only]: 1. Acquire a thorough understanding of the U.S refugee resettlement process and services available to clients resettled by the IRC. 2. Develop essential skills in identifying clients' needs, efficiently coordinating medical care, social services support and establishing connections to vital supportive services within the community. 3. Hone expertise in conducting wellness assessments at designated intervals post enrollment in the ICM or SCM programs and maintain comprehensive case file documentation of all direct services rendered. REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers must be based in the U.S. Interns must be based in US, must be a US citizen or have US work authorization, must be enrolled in post-secondary institution or have graduated from a post-secondary institution within last 2 years. · Minimal Educational Background – A bachelor's or master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, or a related field is preferred. · Special Certifications or Licenses – No separate certifications or licenses are required, but certifications and licenses in social work, case management, or medical case management preferred. · Prior Experience – Current enrollment at a college or university for Social Work, Psychology, Public Health or a related field, or 1-2 years of experience in any of these fields. Previous experience and/ or a strong interest in working with refugees and immigrants. Alternatives accepted include internships, volunteer work, or related projects.
