As our Cloud Architect, you will design and lead the implementation of cloud-based solutions that empower field teams, improve program delivery, and ensure organizational resilience. You will embed a security-first leadership mindset into every stage of solution design and delivery—ensuring that security, compliance, and resilience are not afterthoughts, but core drivers of technology decisions. You’ll collaborate closely with IT, program leads, and partners to align cloud infrastructure with both technical needs and humanitarian outcomes. You will be responsible for leading platform design, governance, and team development, enabling reliable, secure, and high-performing systems that empower field operations, digital services, and data-driven decision-making. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Cloud Platform Strategy and Vision Review existing cloud strategy and implement a strategic roadmap for cloud adoption and optimization aligned with the organization’s long-term goals. Lead platform evolution, balancing innovation with reliability, security, and cost-effectiveness. Identify emerging technologies that enhance digital capabilities while maintaining a security-first posture. Stay current with emerging cloud and security technologies, frameworks, and industry trends.   Multi-Cloud Solution Architecture (AWS & Azure) Lead the design of hybrid and multi-cloud solutions across AWS and Azure, ensuring alignment with both technical and humanitarian needs. Develop reference architectures, solution blueprints, and technical standards for scalable, secure deployments. Architect solutions for application modernization, data integration, and cloud-native services with embedded security controls.   Cloud Integration & Implementation Oversee the end-to-end delivery of cloud projects, from discovery through deployment and optimization, with security as a design principle. Integrate cloud platforms with internal systems (CRM, ERP, data platforms) and field technologies securely and efficiently. Support containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), serverless, and API-based architectures with built-in identity, encryption, and access controls.   Governance, Security & Compliance Champion a security-first leadership mindset—ensuring that all cloud initiatives are designed and operated with proactive security, compliance, and resilience in mind. Embed strong security practices into all solution designs (e.g., encryption in transit/at rest, IAM best practices, network segmentation, zero-trust principles). Ensure compliance with global data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA), donor requirements, and ethical technology standards. Lead business continuity and disaster recovery strategies, including secure multi-region deployments.   Technical Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration Serve as a technical advisor and thought leader across IT, programs, data, and operations teams. Mentor junior architects, engineers, and project teams; lead cloud architecture review boards with a security-focused lens. Collaborate with DevOps teams to support CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, automation, and security-as-code initiatives.   Cloud Vendor & Cost Management Manage relationships with AWS and Azure account teams and technical partners. Analyze and optimize cloud spend while ensuring security and compliance controls remain intact. Participate in vendor negotiations and ensure service levels meet both operational and security requirements. KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE: Required Education, training, license, registration, and/or Certification Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field Required Professional Experience 7+ years in IT, with at least 3 years in a cloud architecture, solution architecture, or platform leadership role. Hands-on experience designing and deploying workloads on both AWS and Azure. Strong understanding of networking, IAM, data services, container orchestration, and serverless architectures. Proven experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) in production environments. Deep understanding of infrastructure-as-code, DevOps, networking, and cloud security principles . Expertise with IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation), CI/CD pipelines, and scripting (Python, PowerShell). Demonstrated ability to lead with a security-first mindset , influencing stakeholders and embedding security into organizational culture and technical delivery. Preferred Professional Experience Experience working in or supporting mission-driven organizations or NGOs. Experience supporting field operations in low-resource or low-connectivity environments. Familiarity with mobile data collection tools and systems integration in field contexts. Knowledge of donor technology compliance (e.g., USAID Digital Strategy, DFID standards).
