The Principal I, Data Analysis & Visualization (Science/Tech/Engineering Path) is responsible for leading technical projects by applying advanced data science techniques to analyze complex datasets, create impactful visualizations, and develop data-driven solutions. This role requires building strong, collaborative relationships with project teams to ensure successful delivery. Procurement plays a key role in executing the strategic vision for Procurement Analytics, a newly established team focused on leveraging best-in-class tools and technologies to automate reporting and generate actionable insights for improved spend management. These tools will support effective category management, including managing RFPs and sourcing negotiations. The analytics function will also enable accurate savings tracking across procurement initiatives, prioritize use cases, and standardize best practices in analytics processes and metrics. The Principal I, Software Engineering – Procurement will contribute to various reporting and analytics initiatives within procurement. This includes designing and maintaining ETL workflows to support data integration and analysis. The role is responsible for delivering both prescriptive and descriptive insights to drive spend optimization. Additionally, the individual will ensure the quality, consistency, and design standards of Tableau dashboards used across procurement. In this role, a typical day will include: Manage individual technical data analysis and visualization projects. Apply specialized knowledge to achieve project objectives and drive innovation. Utilize data science techniques such as machine learning, predictive modeling, and statistical    analysis to extract insights and create meaningful visualizations to communicate findings. Conduct independent research and thought leadership activities to optimize outcomes. Achieve goals through mainly self-directed work with potential guidance from management. Make operational decisions within the scope of assigned projects. Demonstrate project management and technical skills, including advanced problem-solving and effective communication. Show proficiency in data analysis and visualization techniques. What You’ll Bring to Alcon: Over 5 years of experience in business and data analysis. Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, Alteryx, and Tableau. Collaborates closely with procurement, IT, and other departments to understand data requirements and improve data quality and integrity for spend and supplier analytics. Designs, implements, and maintains ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into analytics platforms. Builds and optimizes data pipelines and architectures to ensure efficient data flow and accessibility for procurement analysis. Analyzes procurement data to uncover trends, patterns, and opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiency. Provides actionable recommendations based on data insights to support strategic procurement decisions. Develops and automates Tableau dashboards and reports to communicate key procurement metrics and insights to stakeholders. Hands-on experience with Tableau Desktop for creating interactive and insightful visualizations. Continuously monitors industry trends and tools, recommending enhancements to existing data processes and technologies.
