Job Description Surgical Technologists are an integral part of the team of the surgical team.  Surgical technologists help to ensure that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the patient safety is maintained.  The surgical technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure and anticipates the need of the surgeon.  He/she is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Qualifications Must successfully complete a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technology or successfully complete an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Military. Must hold and maintain an unexpired certification in surgical technology credentialed by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization or meet the requirements to be grandfathered in the profession as outlined by New York State Health laws.
