General Description: Teaches Nursing Aide content and workplace skills to high school students enrolled at the Chesterfield Technical Center. Work is performed at the professional level and within full compliance of the Virginia Board of Nursing regulations for the state of Virginia as well as the VDOE guidelines for Nurse Aide programs 8355 through 8362. Students study normal growth and development, simple body structure and function, and medical terminology and are introduced to microbes and disease. They receive elementary skill training in patient-nursing assistant relationships; taking and recording of vital signs; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; bathing, feeding, dressing, and transporting of patients in hospitals and nursing homes. Limited on-the-job instruction in nursing homes and hospitals is part of the course. Job Description: Essential Job Functions : Teacher is the coordinator and primary instructor of the Nurse Aide program. Maintains full compliance and updates of Virginia Board of Nursing regulations. Coordinates and instructs students at  clinical locations. Plans instructional program; demonstrates skills, assigns and evaluates coursework.  Administers methods to evaluate progress.  Records progress and issues reports to students, parents and administrators. Teaches content skills:  workplace readiness skills and nursing skills necessary to work in a health care environment.  Responsible for offering students the opportunity to participate in the HOSA student organization. Teaches process skills:  problem solving, critical thinking, teaming, technical writing and communication related to course content and employment. Teaches application skills through personal networked computers, co-curricular activities and school to work transition experiences. Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence. Assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs. Uses the curriculum of the district to plan daily instructional activities. Performs other work as assigned. Budgetary Responsibility :       Prepares and monitors the budget. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities :      Working knowledge of the concepts, principles and methodologies of instruction, learning theory and teaching methodologies. Working skill in computer applications.  Demonstrated ability to develop instructional goals for students.  Demonstrated ability to prepare and monitor budget.  Demonstrated ability to provide work direction to others.  Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other instructional personnel; to communicate instructional goals to others effectively, orally and in writing.  Demonstrated skills in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships and planning. Additional Job Requirements: Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Practical Nursing or Nursing Aide.  To be eligible for a Virginia teaching license candidates must hold a valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Virginia Board of Nursing and have a minimum of 2 years of full-time occupational experience within the previous 5 years and at least one year of experience in the provision of long-term care facility services. Such experience may include, but not be limited to, employment in a nurse aide education program or employment in or supervision of nursing students in a nursing facility or unit, geriatrics department, chronic care hospital, home care or other long-term care setting. Experience should include varied responsibilities, such as direct client care, supervision and education. Must be First Aid/ CPR, AED certified and maintain current certifications.
