Position Summary The Microbiology Manager will lead and manage the operations of the microbiology department in a clinical laboratory , ensuring accurate, timely diagnostic testing and compliance with all regulatory standards. This role is critical for maintaining patient safety and delivering high-quality results that support clinical decision-making. Key Responsibilities Clinical Laboratory Operations Oversee daily workflow for microbiology testing, including bacteriology, virology, mycology, and parasitology. Ensure turnaround times meet clinical needs and patient care standards. Manage staffing, and resource allocation. Diagnostic Testing Leadership Supervise and validate tests such as: Blood, urine, CSF, and wound cultures Gram staining and antimicrobial susceptibility testing Mycology and parasitology diagnostics EIA Testing Oversee implementation and maintenance of automated systems (.g., MALDI-TOF, Antimicrobial Susceptibility Instrumentation, WASPLab). Compliance & Quality Assurance Maintain strict adherence to CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory requirements. Lead proficiency testing, quality control programs, and corrective action plans. Prepare for and manage accreditation inspections. Safety & Continuous Improvement Enforce biosafety protocols and infection control measures. Drive process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and patient safety. Team Leadership Supervise microbiology staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations. Foster a collaborative environment focused on quality and service excellence. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or related science (meeting CLIA/CAP requirements). Minimum 10 years of clinical laboratory experience, Minimum 3–5 years in a supervisory role Expertise in clinical microbiology testing and interpretation. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage operations in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.
