If you are driven to create a better, more sustainable future, then this is the right place for you.  Job Summary: The Staff Data Engineer is a hands-on technical expert responsible for building and optimizing highly scalable data pipelines, storage layers, and compute systems across vehicle telemetry, manufacturing, sales, finance, and enterprise applications. If you enjoy solving large-scale data engineering challenges, working closely with a talented team of engineers, and contributing to the next generation of Lucid’s data platform, this is the right opportunity for you. You Will:• Data Pipeline Engineering: Design, build, and optimize large-scale batch and streaming data pipelines that support vehicle data, manufacturing systems, and enterprise analytics use cases.• Scalable Data Systems: Develop distributed data processing solutions using technologies such as Spark, Kafka, Trino, Airflow, Kubernetes, and AWS data services.• Data Modeling and Storage: Design efficient data lake and warehouse models using Parquet, Iceberg, and S3-based storage patterns that ensure performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.• Hands-on Technical Leadership: Serve as a technical leader for the data engineering team, providing deep expertise, unblocking complex issues, and guiding best practices for performance and reliability.• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with software, analytics, telemetry, manufacturing IT, and infrastructure teams to deliver robust and scalable data solutions.• Operational Excellence: Implement data quality checks, monitoring, lineage, and automation to increase platform reliability and reduce operational overhead.• Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Evaluate new frameworks, tools, and architectural approaches that elevate the data platform and support future scalability.• Technical Roadmaps: Contribute to technical roadmaps and long-term vision for the evolution of Lucid’s data systems and data platform capabilities. Your Bring:• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related field.• 8+ years of hands-on industry experience in data engineering or backend systems development.• Strong experience with modern data technologies such as Spark, Kafka, Airflow, Kubernetes, Docker, Trino or Presto, AWS Glue, and S3-based data lake patterns.• Proven ability to design and implement scalable ETL and ELT data pipelines using batch and real-time frameworks.• Deep knowledge of data lake and lakehouse architectures using Parquet, Iceberg, and metadata management concepts.• Strong experience optimizing performance, reliability, and cost for large-scale data storage and compute systems.• Demonstrated ability to drive technical decisions, influence architectural direction, and mentor other engineers.• Ability to work across multiple teams and communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.• Track record of delivering high-impact data engineering solutions in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.   ***This role is required to be onsite at our headquarters in Newark, CA***   At Lucid, we don’t just welcome diversity - we celebrate it! Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.  Base Pay Range (Annual)$153,100 - $224,510 USD Additional Compensation and Benefits: Lucid offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.  (Cash or equity incentive awards, if any, will depend on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and company performance.)
