As a Pharmacy Clinical Specialist – Emergency Medicine, you will serve as the primary pharmacy resource for the Emergency Department, working in a fully decentralized role to support providers and caregivers at the point of care. You’ll respond to codes and rapid responses, collaborate closely with physicians and consultants and contribute to key initiatives such as the ESI governance committee. In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you’ll play an integral role in the residency program by serving as a preceptor and mentoring developing pharmacists. While primarily based in the ED, you may also float to critical care areas as needed, representing pharmacy with advanced expertise and strong clinical partnership. A caregiver in this role will work Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 7:30pm. Requirements include every other weekend and 2 holidays per year. A caregiver who excels in this role will:   Coordinate and provide pharmaceutical care for patients.   Participate in patient care rounds.   Perform pharmacotherapeutic monitoring and provision of pharmaceutical care for patients.   Provide general and patient-specific drug information.   Educate clinical pharmacists, technicians, pharmacy students, post-graduate trainees, allied health professionals, nurses and physicians in pharmacotherapy.   Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy   If hired for a specialty area where specialty residency training is available, then specialty residency is required   Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) OR eligible for reciprocation in the current state within 90 days of hire   Completion of a post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or fellowship OR completion of a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY-1) and two years of experience as a clinical specialist or an equivalent role providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmaceutical monitoring OR four years of experience as a clinical specialist or an equivalent role providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring   For individuals required to administer immunizations: current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire   For individuals required to respond to adult or pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest events: current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross or certification obtained within 1 year of hire   Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   Board Certification in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care  Emergency Department experience  Cleveland Clinic empowers caregivers to minimize the impacts of healthcare while optimizing patient outcomes and supporting the community. Position often includes reaching, stretching, stooping, climbing steps and sitting. Must have normal or corrected vision.
