We are committed to serving the community and treat our patients as family.    Epilepsy is a neurological condition involving the brain that makes people more susceptible to having recurrent, unprovoked seizures. Akron General’s Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) is a ten-bed monitoring unit allowing epilepsy specialists to diagnose a seizure problem accurately and design the best possible treatment plan. As an LPN, you will assist fellow caregivers in providing exceptional, top-quality care to a diverse patient population. In this role, you can make a lasting difference in the lives of patients, all while enhancing your nursing skills through hands-on experience and numerous educational resources offered within the Cleveland Clinic system. A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. with every other weekend and holiday rotation requirements.   A caregiver who excels in this role will:   Collect, document and report patient data and observations.   Implement care plans as directed by an RN and contribute to care plan revisions.   Administer medications and/or treatments authorized by a provider and observe patients for adverse reactions.     Perform routine laboratory tests.  Educate patients and family members.   Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   Graduate of an accredited practical or vocational nursing program  Current Ohio license as a Licensed Practical Nurse Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross   Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  One year of patient care experience Epilepsy Monitoring Unit experience  Critical care experience Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
