Why This Role Matters As a Managing Technical Consultant, Archaeologist , you will play a pivotal role in advancing ERM’s Cultural Resources Services practice across the Pacific Northwest . Your leadership ensures regulatory excellence, Tribal and agency collaboration, and high‑quality technical work that supports some of the region’s most important environmental and infrastructure initiatives. This position strengthens ERM’s ability to deliver thoughtful, compliant, and culturally sensitive solutions for clients across the U.S. What Your Impact Is Lead and deliver high‑quality archaeological investigations—both desktop analyses and field studies—that inform project planning, permitting, and environmental review. Build trusted relationships with SHPOs, Tribal Nations, federal/state agencies, and key stakeholders across Washington, Oregon, and the broader region. Manage diverse, simultaneous projects with precision—ensuring quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction. Mentor and guide cultural resources staff, helping develop the next generation of field directors, analysts, and technical specialists. Collaborate with environmental planners, biologists, engineers, GIS experts, and others across ERM to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary solutions. Support proposal development and cost estimates to strengthen ERM’s market presence and client offerings. What You’ll Bring Required Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field 7+ years of relevant paid experience. Qualifications to serve as Field Director on BLM, ARPA, and state permits in the Pacific Northwest. Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) and meets/exceeds Washington DAHP, Oregon SHPO, and Secretary of the Interior standards. Demonstrated leadership in directing archaeological survey, testing, and data recovery projects within the Pacific Northwest. Author experience with agency‑reviewed cultural resources documentation ( Class I & III reports, NEPA/SEPA sections, treatment plans, etc.). Experience interacting with agency personnel as a consultant representative. Ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary cultural resources team. Willingness to travel throughout Washington, Oregon, and occasionally to neighboring states. Ability to conduct fieldwork up to 50% during peak season, including walking long distances, navigating challenging terrain, and lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. Proficiency with mapping and field tools such as GPS units, total stations, and ArcGIS FieldMaps/Survey123. Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area. This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications to serve as Principal Investigator on BLM, federal, and state permits in Washington, Oregon , or nearby states. Prior experience supervising staff or direct reports. Laboratory materials processing experience. Key Responsibilities Prepare and/or lead technical reports for desktop and field‑based cultural resources investigations, including contributions to federal and state environmental documents. Lead pedestrian survey, testing, excavation, and construction monitoring activities. Coordinate and consult with SHPO offices, including Washington DAHP and Oregon SHPO. Serve as Task Manager for multiple concurrent projects, ensuring delivery within scope, schedule, and budget. Mentor and oversee team members, actively contributing to hiring, development, and engagement across the Cultural Resources Services team. Partner with ERM’s planners, scientists, engineers, and technical specialists across the U.S. to deliver integrated solutions to clients in the energy and infrastructure sectors. Represent ERM in meetings with clients, agencies, teaming partners, and other stakeholders. Assist with proposal writing and cost estimation with guidance from ERM’s senior cultural resources leaders. For the Managing Technical Consultant, Archaeologist position, the anticipated annual base pay is $87,042–$109,282 (USD) . Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are not bonus eligible).
